Porto de Galinhas natural pools: the complete guide to tides and jangadas

The natural pools of Porto de Galinhas are spectacular, but their beauty depends entirely on a strict rule: timing. If you arrive at the wrong hour, the ocean will cover the reefs entirely, and the famous crystal-clear pools will simply disappear under the waves. To guarantee the experience you see in the photos, you need to understand the tide table and know exactly where to buy your jangada ticket.

Why the tide table is your best friend in Porto de Galinhas

The natural pools only reveal themselves when the tide recedes. For a worthwhile visit, the tide level must be below 0.5 meters. The closer the number is to 0.0m (or even negative numbers like -0.1m), the better the visibility and the shallower the water.

Checking the daily tide table before heading to the beach is essential, as the times change every single day. The moon phases also play a major role: during the New Moon and Full Moon, the tides reach their absolute lowest points, creating the most breathtaking scenarios.

The best time to go (and how long you have)

Knowing the tide level is only half the secret; knowing when to step on the jangada is the other. The ideal time window to visit the natural pools is between 90 minutes before and 90 minutes after the lowest tide of the day.

For example, if the tide hits its minimum at 10:00 AM, you should aim to be at the pools between 8:30 AM and 11:30 AM. Arriving within this window ensures the reefs are exposed and the water is completely still.

How to buy the official jangada ride (2026 prices)

To reach the pools, you must take a traditional jangada (a small wooden sailboat). The ride is organized by the Associação dos Jangadeiros, and tickets should be bought directly at their official booth in the village center, near the beach.

For 2026, the official standard rate for adults (and children 7 years and older) is R$ 60 if paying by cash or PIX, and R$ 63 if paying by credit or debit card. Children between 4 and 6 years old pay half-price (R$ 30 cash/PIX or R$ 33 card), and children up to 3 years old are free. Buying directly from the official booth ensures you pay the fair price without any intermediary markups.
